Substitute bad Behavior with positive behavior

Offensive behavior or habits are usually initiated in one’s life to provide comfort from a stressful event or entertainment from boredom.

Whatever the reason for the offensive behavior or habit, we must rid ourselves of them.
Once we determine the reason for the offensive behavior or habit, we can find a positive substitute.

If your trying to quit smoking and you tend to smoke when you drink, avoid drinking. You may also try chewing gum or drinking water throughout the day.
If you are a late night binge eater while watching T.V. commit to going to bed earlier. You may also try drinking a healthy tea with chamomile or vitamin water while snacking on popcorn during your favorite movie.
If you tend to overeat when you study for exams,  put your notes on index cards and walk several miles while studying.

Remember offensive behavior or habits are usually established to provide comfort from a stressful event or entertainment from boredom.

I  feel your level of success in ridding yourself of an offensive habit is strengthened when you substitute the offensive behavior with a healthy behavior.  Substituting the behavior allows you the same level of comfort or entertainment you were initially seeking when you established the habit.
